Training Seminar

Cambridge EnerTech is pleased to offer a skill-based Training Seminar to the International Battery Seminar & Exhibit. A Training Seminar offers in-depth training and instruction on a specific subject area that isn’t covered at this level during the main conference program or pre-conference tutorials. Our Training Seminar offers real-life case studies, problems encountered and solutions applied. Experienced Training Seminar instructors offer a mix of formal lectures, interactive discussions and activities to help attendees maximize their learning experiences.

TS1: Lithium-Ion Battery Cell and Pack Technology
The first part of this seminar will provide of an overview of lithium-ion cell technology and an in-depth discussion of the principles guiding the design of both high-energy and high-power lithium-ion cells. The second part will present the overall design of battery systems, the product development process, cost, and system validation.

Bob Spotnitz, President, Battery Design LLC
Kevin Konecky, Battery Systems Consultant, Total Battery Consulting, Inc.

  • Overview of Li-ion cell technology and discussion of the principles guiding the designs of both high-energy and high-power cells and their manufacturing technology
  • Porous electrode theory
  • Impact of potential improvements in materials and processes
  • Introduction to battery systems
  • System specification development
  • System design: cell and module design, and mechanical, thermal, and battery management (hardware and software)
  • Product development process overview with key milestones and cost considerations

Engineers and scientists working for materials and component companies, battery developers, pack developers, and OEMS; and business development and technical sales who are looking to gain a deeper understand of the product and development process.

Bob Spotnitz, President, Battery Design LLC
Dr. Spotnitz is a leading developer of mathematical models that simulate battery operation. Dr. Spotnitz, who previously held several senior technical positions in materials and battery development, founded Battery Design in 1999 to provide consulting and develop custom software for battery developers and users. He is a well-known speaker on various aspects of battery engineering.

Kevin Konecky, Battery Systems Consultant, Total Battery Consulting, Inc.
Mr. Konecky brings over 20 years of xEV experience to his work, having worked on multiple complex designs for battery system development, charging system integration, and high-voltage powertrain integration. He is skilled in new product design and development, product testing, product safety, integration of multiple sub-systems for vehicles, new product launches and has expanded his skillset beyond batteries into power electronics. His experience in batteries includes multiple technologies (Li Ion, NiMH, UltraCapacitors, Lead-Acid).

What is a Training Seminar?
Each Training Seminar offers 1.0 Days of instruction with start and stop times for each day shown above and on the Event-at-a-Glance published in the onsite Program & Event Guide. Training Seminars will include morning and afternoon refreshment breaks, as applicable, and lunch will be provided to all registered attendees on the full day of the class.

Each person registered specifically for the Training Seminar will be provided with a hard copy handbook for the Seminar in which they are registered. A limited number of additional handbooks will be available for other delegates who wish to attend the Seminar, but after these have been distributed no additional books will be available.

Though Cambridge EnerTech encourages hopping between symposia and conference programs, we ask that Training Seminars not be disturbed once they have begun. In the interest of maintaining a high-quality learning environment for these sessions, we ask that attendees commit to attending the entire program, rather than coming in and out of the room, as to not disturb the hands-on style instruction being offered to the other participants.
